India is facing job crisis or skill crisis?
India
is facing job crisis or skill crisis?
First
of all, let us know that why again and again this question is raised
in India. The obvious reasons are the research studies that are
conducted in these areas and the numbers that are brought up by the
facts published every year.
Unemployment in
India is projected to witness marginal increase between 2017 and
2018, signalling stagnation in job creation in the country, according
to a UN labour report.
Whereas according to India Skills Report 2017 by Wheebox, it stated that India has a population of over 1.2 billion almost half of which is already eligible to work, and yet there are so many jobs which remain unfilled in the absence of right people with required skills.
So
you can see clearly that there is a gap between the above two
statements that are published by research agencies. Unfortunately,
it’s the educational system of India which have caused the
unemployment and skills crisis.
There
are many research study that have highlighted the impact of education
on employment, and it demonstrates the challenging mismatch between
our educational system and the job skills employers need.
It
also reveals the tremendous need for skills in the workforce, and
points out many gaps in the educational system's ability to drive
these skills.
The
solution to this problem is educational
system has to be changed according to the needs of employment. There
should be educational body which keep sync with employment
opportunities and structure the educational courses accordingly so
the students have the required skillsets needed by employers. But
this seems to be very hard looking at the way educational system
works in India. So there are huge opportunities for private
institutes to grab this market and explore it deep to fill the gap
between job crisis and skills crisis.
